Auf Betreiben seiner Stiefmutter wird Prinz Rama vom Hof seines Vaters verbannt. Seine Frau Sita folgt ihm in die Wildnis, wo sie vom Dämonenkönig Ravana entführt wird. Ravana bedrängt Sita, sich ihm hinzugeben, doch Sita bleibt standhaft, bis sie von Rama mit Hilfe einer Armee von Affen befreit wird.
